Synth rock er en ganske nyskapt sjanger som vokste fram i USA. Synth music har blitt mer og mer populært gjennom årene. Mange kjente artister som Nine Inch Nails og Linkin Park som har begynt å lage synth rock-sanger.
Vanligvis pleier man og ha trommer og noen få ganger også litt elektronika i Synth rock–sanger.
