Strawbs på Commons

Strawbs er et rockeband som ble startet i England i 1964. De het opprinnelig Strawberry Hill Boys og var et bluegrassband, som etterhvert spilte flere forskjellige stilarter som for eksempel folk, folk rock, glam rock og progressiv rock.

Bandet ble startet av vokalisten og gitaristen Dave Cousins, og har hatt mange forskjellige besetninger opp igjennom årene. Av de mest kjente medlemmene er Sandy Denny, som i 1968 gikk til Fairport Convention, Rick Wakeman, som i 1971 gikk til Yes og Don Airey.

Strawbs ble oppløst i 1980, men ble samlet igjen i 1983, og har siden spilt med flere av de gamle besetningene. I 2009 var det besetningen som spilte inn albumet Hero and Heroine i 1974 som turnerte, men med Oliver Wakeman på tangentinstrumenter i stedet for John Hawken (født 1940), som pensjonerte seg i 2008.

Siden 2000 har Dave Cousins sammen med Brian Willoughby (til 2004), Chas Cronk (fra 2004) og Dave Lambert turnert i Europa og Nord-Amerika som «Acoustic Strawbs», med tre gitarer og vokal.

Strawbs markerte sitt 40-årsjubileum på Twickenham Stadium i London 12. og 13. september 2009.
