Cytherettidae er en av 45 familier i underordenen Cytherocopina, som igjen tilhører gruppen Podocopida av muslingkreps, som er små krepsdyr. Familiens arter er fordelt på 12 slekter hvorav enkelte av slektene er antatt helt utdødde.

Nærmere taksonomisk plassering

Taksonomien av muslingkreps er omstridt og inneholder vanskelig systamiserte grupper. Skillet mellom ordenene av muslingkreps er basert på morfologi snarere enn molekylær analyse, og det er mulig at muslingkreps-gruppen er parafyletisk og bør deles.^[1] Gruppen er nærmere klassifisert i WoRMS-databasen. ^[2]
