Pertempuran Barnet

Pertempuran Barnet merupakan satu pertempuran muktamad semasa Perang Ros, sebuah konflik dinasti pada kurun ke-15 di England. Tindakan ketenteraan, selain Pertempuran Tewkesbury selepasnya, memastikan takhta untuk Edward IV. Pada hari Ahad, 14 April 1471, Hari Easter, berhampiran Barnet, pada waktu itu merupakan sebuah bandar kecil di Hertfordshire, yang terletak di utara London, Edward telah mengetuai Kerabat York dalam satu pertempuran menentang Kerabat Lancaster, yang disokong oleh Henry VI untuk takhta England. Tentera Lancaster diketuai oleh Richard Neville, Earl Warwick, yang mana memainkan peranan penting bagi takdir setiap raja. Para sejarawan menganggap bahawa pertempuran ini adalah salah satu daripada pertempuran paling penting semasa Perang Ros, kerana ia membawa pusingan nasib muktamad bagi kedua-dua buah kerabat. Sebelumnya, Warwick merupakan seorang tokoh penting dalam kerabat York, sebelum berpaling tadah kepada Lancaster ekoran perselisihan berkenaan nepotisme, perkahwinan rahsia dan polisi luar oleh Edward. Beliau mengetuai satu pasukan tentera Lancaster, Warwick berjaya mengalahkan bekas sekutu beliau, memaksa Edward untuk melarikan diri ke Burgundy pada Oktober 1470. Edward menyakinkan hos baginda, Charles si Pemberani, Duke Burgundy, untuk membantu baginda untuk mendapatkan semula takhta England. Mengetuai sepasukan tentera dengan menggunakan wang Burgundy, Edward melancarkan serangan ke atas England, yang mana kemuncaknya bertemu di padang, utara Barnet. Dalam kegelapan, pasukan York bergerak merapati tentera Lancaster dan bertempur dalam kabus tebal pada waktu subuh. Semasa bertempur, Earl Oxford yang berapa di sisi kanan tentera Lancaster bergerak ke arah tentera York yang berada di bawah Lord Hastings, dan menghambat mereka kembali ke Barnet. Semasa kembali ke medan pertempuran, pasukan Oxford telah tersalah serang oleh pasukan tengah tentera Lancaster yang berada di bawah arahan Lord Montagu.
