セクエンス

セクエンス（Sequence）[1][2][3]はアーサー王伝説に登場する剣。13世紀古フランス語の散文『散文ランスロ』（別名『ランスロ本伝』、流布本サイクル（ランスロ＝聖杯サイクル）の一部）[4]に登場する[5][6][7][8][9]。

『散文ランスロ』によると、アーサー王の剣であり[5]、王が死地に赴く際にのみ携えるといわれている。作中ではランスロットがサクソン人との戦いで使用しているが[10][8][9]、王妃（グィネヴィア）が愛しのランスロットに与えたものだと考察される[11]。

  2. ^ 綴りとしては、 Sequence[13][5][6][7][14][15][16], Secance[6][14][15], Seure[5][6][14][9][16], がH ・オスカー・ゾンマー編本の各写本の異本綴りとして照合できる（次注参照）。Secace[5][8]については、コーリー英訳の底本がエルスペス・ケネディー編本（1980年）「Lancelot do Lac: The Non-cyclic Old French Prose Romance」でありBNF fr. 768写本が使われる。ただし、訳本題名からうかがえるようにケネディーは「非サイクル」本（流布本サイクルに組み込まれていない）と主張する。
  3. ^ ゾンマー編本の底本は大英図書館蔵「Add MS 10292–10294」写本。Sommer (1910), p. 421, 脚注6 によると、写本によって表記が異なり、B本では sequence, D本・L本では secance, MS.本では seure, R本では相当するもの無し、とのこと。写本については p. 2 に記載があり、L本は「Lansdowne 757」、R本は「Royal 19. C. xiii」、B本は「Royal 19. B. vii」、D本は「Royal 20. D. iii」を指す。MS.本は「Add. MS. 10,293」を指す。
