Maelgwn Gwynedd

Maelgwn Gwynedd (480 ? - † 547 ?) (dalam bahasa Latin: Maglocunus; kadang-kadang dikenal oleh penulis sebagai Malgo (menurut Historia regum Britanniae Geoffrey dari Monmouth), Malcune atau Malgocunos), juga dikenal sebagai Maelgwn Hir ap Cadwallon, Maelgwn Hir (« yang Kuat »), dan Maelgwn Fawr (« yang Agung ») merupakan seorang raja dan tokoh mitologi Britonik Keltik di mana kepribadiannya sangat kontroversial.

Maelgwn adalah dermawan untuk tujuan Kristiani di seluruh Wales. Dia memberikan sumbangan untuk mendukung Santo Brynach di Dyfed, Santo Cadoc di Gwynllwg, Santo Cybi di Anglesey, Santo Padarn di Ceredigion, dan Santo Tydecho di Powys.[1] Ia juga terlibat dalam pendirian Bangor, tetapi bukti kuat tentang hal ini masih kurang.[1] Dalam karyanya tahun 1723 berjudul Mona Antiqua Restaurata, Henry Rowlands menegaskan bahwa Bangor diangkat menjadi uskup oleh Maelgwn pada tahun 550, tetapi dia tidak memberikan sumber untuk pernyataan tersebut.[2]
