Marvin Sewell

American blues/jazz guitarist

Marvin Sewell is a blues/jazz guitarist, who has been called maybe "the greatest guitarist you've never heard of".[1] He was born and grew up in Chicago, where he attended the Chicago Musical College at Roosevelt University.

Since 1990, he has been based in New York City. He has played with many leading jazz artists, notably Cassandra Wilson, Jack DeJohnette, Lizz Wright and Jason Moran.[2] He also leads the Marvin Sewell Group.[3]

He performed with Cassandra Wilson on two tracks in the 2003 PBS documentary, Martin Scorsese Presents the Blues: A Musical Journey.[4]
